The city of Hyderabad has been an point of Buddhism and teaching since 1000 years as of now. There are celebrations like Lumbini Festival and Buddha Jayanti happening every year. Ananda Buddha Vihara is a Buddhist religious place and cultural center for training Buddhism located in Hyderabad, Andhra Pradesh. It’s located in Mahindra Hills locality of Secunderabad and Hyderabad twin cities with an allocated area of 3 acres on top of a small hill.


The Ananda Buddha Vihara offers one of the best views of the city. You would be astonished by the calm serenity of this place. Outside the hall there is a mini garden with the beautiful idol of Lord Budha as seen in the picture under the tree. Lord Buddha under the tree depicts the scene where he attended the Nirvana. The Ananda Buddha Vihara is a pleasure to visit at any time especially on weekend at times where you need a little peace and lot of quietness.


The Vihara was inaugurated by 14th Dalai Lama named Tenzin Gyatso in 2002. With proposed museum hall it can be a varied place to gain knowledge about Buddhism and the teachings of Lord Buddha. By paying Rs 365 a year you will receive programs and have access to their library. If you show a good interest then there are monks to help you out in understanding Buddhism to its extremes. It does have a lotus pool and an artificial water fall which brings in surprising number of children here at any point of time.

You can find the fine celebration of Buddha Jayanti annually and lectures on full moon day every month organized by Ananda Buddha Vihara Trust. Ananda Buddha Vihara Trust is a committee which looks after the cause of reviving, preserving and spreading Buddhist tradition and culture. In the Vihara complex there are rounds conducted for regular Buddhist practices, chanting, meditation, periodicals and celebrations. A group of resident monks are always available for monastic training and yoga training. Every day morning at 6 Am they conduct yoga classes. This trust was first setup at Tukaramgate in 1988 and now it functions from 3 acres land in Mahendra Hills.

The point of interest for Buddhism and its training is open from 6 Am to 11 Am and then 4 Pm to 9 Pm on all days. There are no restrictions that no photography is allowed inside and so you can take unlimited snaps.  If you want to reach this place, then head to Mahindra hills then head to East Maredpally. Then from Mahendra hills take a rickshaw and head towards Mata Amrtianandmayi’s Ashrama which is very next to Ananda Buddha Vihara. You can to climb the steep road leading to a hill rock.
