Mir Alam Tank is a tank in Hyderabad, India, located to the south of Musi river. It was the primary source of drinking water to Hyderabad before Osman Sagar and Himayat Sagar were built. It is connected to National Highway7 near Palm Valley
The tank was named after Mir Alam Bahadur, then Prime Minister (1804 - 1808) of Hyderabad state during the reign of Asaf Jah III, the third Nizam of Hyderabad state. Mir Alam laid the foundation for the tank on July 20, 1804 and it was completed in about two years on June 8, 1806
Built right next to the Nehru Zoological Park, Mir Alam Tank is a small lake in Hyderabad where a tourist can feel the peace and tranquility of nature untouched by time. The exclusive characteristic of this Tank is that it has 21 in-built small stonework dams, semi-circular in figure. The Mir Alam, (who ruled for a period of 1804 – 1808), the then Prime Minister of Hyderabad and the creator of the Tank were the reason that made its name as The Mir Alam Tank. The edifice of this tank is truly worth appreciating. It is a superb example of engineering, comprising of one-mile bund with 21 semi-circular arches put up on it, thus giving the whole scene a grand look.
You can also visit the Nehru Zoological Park, which is situated right next to it, is another advantage of planning a tour to the Mir Alam Tank. Tourist can enjoy visiting the wildlife of the Zoo along with the calm view of the Tank.
