15 years passed since laying foundation
Warangal: Fifteen years have passed since the foundation for the Regional Science Centre (RSC) here was laid; yet it has not seen the light of the day.
Standing atop a hillock at Hunter Road in the district headquarters, the centre is an epitome of laxity of the successive governments. In 1999 Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu laid the foundation. Another RSC at Vijayawada for which he laid the foundation on the same day and it started functioning from 2005.
Recently, the officials proposed to inaugurate the centre on September 9 by the Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao when he visited the district to attend Kaloji birth anniversary celebrations. But the CM reportedly declined the proposal and asked to fix inauguration schedule on a later date.
Three Regional Science Centres were proposed to set up at Vijayawada, Tirupati and Warangal in united Andhra Pradesh in order to disseminate scientific zeal among the students and common public alike.
Now, the Warangal Regional Science Centre is the only one in entire Telangana state under government control as Birla Science Centre in Hyderabad is being operated by private sector. Many teachers and scholars here are giving suggestion to develop it as State Science Centre since it is centrally located.
