It is located 59 KM towards west from District head quarters Nalgonda. 9 KM from Narayanapur. This Place is known for its natural liveliness with greenary and peace all around.
Rachakonda fort in Telangana state in India. Its history dates back to the 14th century AD, when it was constructed by Recherla Singama Nayak, the founder of a new clan of kings (previously serving the Kakatiya dynasty rulers as military commanders since the 12th century AD) and governing the territory of Rachakonda.
Rachakonda was unique that in spite of its small size and frequent tensions, Telugu literature received major patronage and flourished. Most famous was Sarvajna Singha Bhoopala III of the Recherla clan, the last king of Rachakonda, who patronized both Bammera Pothana and Srinatha – legendary Telugu poets. By Shitab Khan’s time the Bahmanis had recently acquired this important buffer state on their eastern frontiers.
From 1480 to 1485 Shitab Khan was the governor of Rachakonda (near Narayanpur in present Nalgonda district, Telangana). He seems to have taken advantage of the internal turmoils of the Bahmanis and declared his independence in 1503, ruling from the Rachakonda, Warangal and Khammam forts from 1503 to 1512.
Rachakonda the fort, offers a good example of medieval Hindu fort architecture. The construction is of cyclopedia masonry, and the whole fort is devoid of the use of mortar.
The gateways to the fort offer good examples that highlight the use of monolith pillars, beams and lintels and is most interesting to the history connoisseur. The fort walls are quite typical with stone cuts and diversified and laid on the side facing the outside with mudslopes on the interior.
Rachakonda forms an ideal case to understand medieval Hindu town planning and architecture. The fort even adheres to Viswakarma’s Vasthu Sastra on Hindu fort architecture. One can observe that the fort was structured as upper and lower tiers with the city lying on the south eastern side of the fort, partly sprawling outside the boundary wall.
rachakondaShiva Temples
Like the Kakatiyas, the Recherla Padmanayakas also patronised Saivam. Most of the temples constructed here were of Siva.
The Bhoothan temple, the Siva temple and the Veerabhadra Swamy temple were among the very few to name. There was also one massive kacheri where the locals believe the kings organised dance and other cultural programmes.
Very close to these constructions, recently a farmer unearthed an eight-foot-high Sivalingam, which was installed in nearby place. The Sivalingam has been drawing a large number of devotees every day. If you proceed further, you would enter into Tippaigudem village of Manchal mandal in Rangareddy district. The tiny Rachakonda village, located on the foothills of the fort, falls under Nalgonda district only.
A massive entrance with close to 15-feet boundary wall welcomes us in to the fort. On the left side of the fort, there are two historical Sri Rama temples where the locals celebrates Sri Ramanavami in a grand way. The fort also has two naturally carved water tanks and many other interesting structures.
Telangana cinema city at Rachakonda
The Telangana state government has started scouting for suitable land to set up the mega Cinema City that will be spread over 2,000 acre near the city.
Official sources said Rachakonda hillocks area, located on the Nalgonda-Ranga Reddy border, is being considered. Industry department officials say the area is suitable to set up the Cinema City as the Shamshabad airport is just 25 km away and the site lies along the NH-65 and ORR, providing world-class connectivity.
The site proposed by the Telangana state government for a new Cinema City is very near Ramoji Film City, which is less than 10 km, and the TS government’s Cinema City is expected to give tough competition to the Film City.
